Former Formula One driver Johnny Herbert believes it will be Ferrari (50/1 - F1 Constructors’ Championship 2011 – Outright) and not McLaren that will push Red Bull all the way for race victories in the remainder of the season.
The 47-year-old former Stewart and Jaguar driver feels Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel (1/20 – Championship Outright) has virtually wrapped up the drivers’ title following his sixth win from the opening eight races at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on Sunday, claiming the German “has been able to get results quite easily and consistently”.
However, as opposed to feeling that McLaren’s British duo of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will show some resistance over the rest of the year, Herbert claims it is Ferrari driver Alonso (16/1 – Championship Outright) who looks the most likely following his recent impressive performances.
Herbert told formula1fancast: “If anybody is going to take it to Sebastian I think it is going to be Alonso because they (Ferrari) have upped their game.
“Perhaps not up to the same level as Red Bull, they have been beating everybody else and been very consistent, (but) Fernando is probably the most consistent guy (of the chasing pack) at the moment.”
