The Miami Redhawks went 1-11 in 2009, but they made the single biggest turnaround of any team in the nation to finish 10-4 last season. Not only was it the biggest turnaround last season, but it also marked the biggest turnaround in the history of college football!

Mike Haywood engineered the turnaround, but he is no longer a part of the picture. Don Treadwell, who has worked with Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio of late, takes over the top job.

Treadwell definitely inherits a program that has high expectations in 2011. After all, Miami returns 53 letterwinners and 20 starters from last year’s team. Can

It seems like a decade ago that Dontrelle Willis came in as a Marlins youngster and won a league high 22 games.  Of course, it was half a decade ago, but Willis career never did quite pan out like experts predicted it would, and his awkward mechanics became simply bad mechanics in time, as they no longer confused hitters, who eventually got in rhythm with the leftys delivery, much to his peril.

Willis gave up 2 runs and 5 hits in 4.2 innings of work against the Pirates, but still received the loss since he received zero runs of support.

THE Turf Club’s referrals committee will meet on Monday morning to review the controversial performance of The Real Article at Tipperary eight days ago when the Edward O’Grady-trained six-year-old was beaten a short head by Captain Cee Bee in the Grade 3 Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary.

The Real Article only just failed to get up under a hands-and-heels ride from Paddy Mangan and the acting stewards accepted the explanations offered by trainer and rider after calling an inquiry into the riding of the horse from the second-last hurdle.

Made favourite for the Guinness Galway Hurdle on Thursday on the strength of his performance, The Real Article will be 18lb well-in for the race having been raised that amount in future.

Denis Egan, chief executive of the Turf Club, said on Sunday: “The referrals committee will be reviewing the whole race and the decision of the Tipperary stewards not to impose a sanction.”

It is understood that the options facing the committee are: to agree with the Tipperary stewards findings, or to disagree and find that the rules were breached, with the option of imposing a penalty.

Should any penalty be imposed it will be open to appeal and it is understood that every effort will be made to hear it in advance of the Galway Hurdle on Thursday.

If I told you I was a big fan of the Tour de France, I would be lying.  That being said, I do follow the highlights and pay attention to some of the tense moments.  Feel free to correct me if Im wrong, Tour de France buffs, but this years Tour seems like one of the craziest in history.  We have already seen one racer get tangled up in a barbed wire fence after a car ran a few cyclists off the road a little over a week ago.  Now, the fans are getting in on the nuttiness.  Check out the video of Alberto Contador punching a fan, courtesy of Deadspin:

In case the joke flew over your head, the fan Contador punched was dressed as a doctor carrying a blood bag.  That, of course, is a reference to the three-time Tour champion giving a positive drug test last year.  Heckling is one thing.  Running alongside a cyclist during a race and making fun of them to their face is another.  Guy got what he deserved.
