TRAINER Jim Boyle is not too concerned about the weight The Rectifier has been given for the Totesport Mile at Goodwood on July 29.
The weights for the heritage handicap were announced on Wednesday, putting the son of Langfuhr on 9st 6lb, 4lb off top-weight Dance And Dance.
The Rectifier is as short as 16-1 with the sponsors, but can be backed at 25-1 elsewhere and Boyle is hoping for a decent show.
“He has been running well all season and has progressed nicely through the year,” Boyle said on Wednesday. “He has improved for each run, which is always nice to see.
“He was unlucky in a Listed race at Windsor last time and has pleased us with the way he has performed in his races this season, so we thought we would have a crack at a big one.”
Boyle, who trains The Rectifier for Anne Cowley, added: “He has been given the weight he is entitled to on his performances and he is a good size with a touch of class, so I’m not worried about him being towards the top of the handicap.”
Weights for the Blue Square Stewards’ Cup – another of the big handicaps at the Glorious Goodwood meeting – were also published on Wednesday, with Waffle, Deacon Blues and Jimmy Styles on 9st 10lb.
Outsider Son Of The Cat was allotted 8st 8lb and his trainer Brian Gubby said: “He is a tough little bugger and he won his maiden over six furlongs at Goodwood.”
