WILLIAM HAGGAS is hoping the progressive Green Destiny can bag another another big handicap in Friday’s Totesport Milebefore moving on to higher company. The four-year-old, the general 3-1 favourite for the Glorious Goodwood contest, has rocketed up the ratings, having won two of his three starts this season.
However, it was the manner of Green Destiny’s lastest success when taking apart the John Smith’s Cup field by three and a half lengths at York that suggests he is a Group horse masquerading as a handicapper. Speaking on the eve of the race, Haggas said: “Green Destiny is well. It’s probably his last go in a handicap. He won well at York and I don’t think the drop in trip will be a problem. Theform definitely hasn’t been let down and he should go close, he’s in good form.” Clerk of the course Seamus Buckley decided to water the Goodwood track on Thursday to maintain the ground for the last two days. The drying ground led to a going change after the first race on Thursday and Buckley said: “The ground has certainly quickened up. I walked the course just before the penultimate race and due to the drying conditions we’ve decided to put four to five millimetres of water on the straight just to keep the sting out of the ground.
“The rail on the bottom bend will be taken down and moved over and there will be fresh ground available tomorrow.
“There’s a 30 per cent chance of a shower tomorrow afternoon, but in view of that forecast we have to water to avoid the risk of getting close to firm ground. There’s still moisture in the ground, but we want to maintain it as it is.”
