Barcelona can be backed for victory at best odds of 11/10 (bet $10 to win $11 profit) with Betfair, while most bookies go Evens or 21/20 about the Spanish giants. It’s hard to argue with those odds when you consider how impressive Barca have been in both Europe and La Liga this season. Messi is unquestionably the best player on the planet right now and when you have support like Villa, Pedro, Iniesta and Xavi to back up the Argentinean’s God-given talent then it’s tough to see how Barcelona can be stopped. Mourniho managed it last year with Inter Milan but came unstuck with Real Madrid this season, so United clearly need to play at the absolute best of their ability to even have a chance. A chance they do have though as United on their day can beat any team in the world, including the all-conquering Barcelona. It all depends who gets the first goal in our view. If United can score first then we think they have a decent chance of going on to win the game, but if Barca net first then a repeat of the one-way traffic 2009 final is surely on the cards. 3/1 is therefore a good betting proposition if you think United can out-press Barcelona in the first 15 minutes and bag a goal. We think it’s more likely however that Barca will score first so 3/1 doesn’t appeal.
